If you make it at home, remember to leave the spices in the wine for at least an hour and then reheat the mixture to infuse it with all the aromas.
Wine, strange as it may sound, is served in ceramic or fireproof cups, as is coffee. On second thought, however, this is reasonable, since wine is served hot and crystal or glassware is not heat resistant. In Scandinavian countries, it is usually served in a low cup with a saucer, with raisins and almond skins added and accompanied by ginger biscuits.
Ingredients:
1 bottle of red wine
A stick of cinnamon
7-8 carnations
Zest of half a lemon
Juice of one orange
Half a cup of sugar
3 tablespoons of honey (or more if you prefer)
1 pinch of nutmeg
Optional rum, brandy or vodka, depending on how strong you want your drink
Execution:
Heat the wine in a small saucepan to a temperature lower than the boiling temperature of the wine (60-70 degrees) and add the rest of the ingredients. Be careful not to boil the mixture or all the alcohol will evaporate. Once the mixture is heated, strain if necessary. Serve the drink preferably in ceramic mugs.
